About the Event
The theme of this seminar will be the drills and fighting methods of Choki Motobu (1870 – 1944). These methods will showcase practical “old school” karate (karate that was never influenced by the “do” ethos) and will be of great interest to practitioners of all styles. The methods include arching strikes, trapping, utilising predictable actions, locking, redirecting force, underused kicks, etc. Links with Tekki / Naihanchi (Motobu’s favourite kata) are also very apparent.
Otsuka (founder of Wado-Ryu) was a student of Motobu and his influence can be seen in some elements of the Kihon Gumite of Wado. This seminar will therefore be of extra interest to Wado stylists.
